Basically the definition of an all sports lake is that any type of boat is allowed. Speed boats, jet boats, ski boats, sail boats, kayaks, any boat with a motor of any size, jet skis, and personal watercraft. You can waterski, wakeboard, tube, or pull anybody behind the boat. The motors can be inboard or outboard. Usually there are no speed limits unless the individual lakes have a speed limit. There is basically no limit on what you can do on the lake with a boat. That is what a Michigan all sports lake is.

Some lakes do not allow motors, or jet skis, or have a limited size of motor. They would either be called a non motorized lake, an electric motor lake, or a limited all sports lake depending on what they allow.
Size does matter when it comes to all sports lakes. If the lake is too small then you are just making a small loop around the lake. I would say below 80 acres is a tiny all sports lake that you just have to keep turning the boat in a circle. A lake like that is not for an avid water sports enthusiast. Between 80 and 150 acres there is more room to manuever and to do figure 8's and do S turns with the boat. Again it is a nice sized lake but a big water sport enthusiast may want bigger.
I myself believe anything over 150 acres is good size, but most lake home buyers want an Oakland County all sports lake of over 200 acres. Some people do not want a round lake. They want some bays, or penisulas in the lake to give it character. Most of the lakes on the first list will have that.
