Mickelson Lake waterfront homes are "newer". There is no home on the lake that I know of that is older than 1973. The lakefront Homes were built from 1973 to 2014. Most of the homes have brick, stone, vinyl exteriors. Most have basements and some are walkout. I commonly refer to Mickelson Lake as what I would call a subdivision lake. Some lake home buyer do not like lakes where there is a mish-mash of homes. Old and new, small and large next to each other. Sometimes these older lake homes are close together on small 30' to 40' lots. Sometimes there are no rules about the up keep of the homes on the outside. Sometimes you have no association to enforce the neatness of the lake neighborhood.
They are basically newer brick homes built after the 1970's. You cannot tell the difference between the lake homes and any home in a subdivision. There are no little old lake cottages that were built in the 1920's to 1950's on Mickelson Lake. There was a nice section of 18 homes that were built on the lake called Sandy Shores.
Here are the basic features of lakefront homes on Mickelson Lake homes in Oxford Township. The waterfront homes range from 1600 square feet to over 5000 square feet. Most have two to five and a half bathrooms and three to five bedrooms. Though there is one home that does have two bedrooms. Most homes have basements some are walkouts.
All of the homes have basements. They mainly 2 & 3 car garages however there are some that have up to 6 car garage. The Mickelson home styles are cape cods, ranches, colonials, split level homes. Most homes sit on lots .3 to .5 acre though there are some 1.45, 1.48, 1.57, 1.67, 2, 2.16, 2.19 acres in size.
The waterfront homes are on wells and community wells. Some Michelson Lake homes are on septic, and some are on sewers. There are no condominiums on the lake. Only single family residences.
Michelson Lake is a smaller private all sports lake that about 50 to 69 acres in sizes. It does connect to the Stringy Chain of Lake via a culvert under the road but is not part of what they call the Stringy Lakes. It is a lake that is just to the north and west of the lakes. They connect but only small boats can get to the Stringy Lake chain. A pontoon or speed boat cannot get through. The water level at the culvert is very shallow.
The lake is fed by the Paint Creek from the north and by a small stream to the west. When doing my research I noticed that they did have a lake association but that it had been dissolved years ago. I do not know if there is one currently. The roads around the lake are paved.
Mickelson Lake deepest point is 40 foot deep. It is not a big all sports lake. It is just smaller lake. If you are looking for a big lake then this lake will not be for you. It is a good lake for occasionally water skiing, and tubing. It is a big enough lake to do that. There are no wake restrictions on the lake other than the canal is a no wake zone.
There is no DNR access on Mickelson Lake but there is one on Squaw Lake that has 50 parking spots for the public. I say it is a public lake because you can get to Mickelson Lake from Squaw Lake. It will take a little time to get there, but you can get there through 2 culverts under roads to get to the Lake.
There is no public beach, no marina on the lake, and no state approved water ski course. The school district for the lake is Oxford Schools. There are several canals on the lake.
