Like so many of the other Huron River chain of lakes waterfront homes you are going to find that many of the homes on Gallagher Lake are closer together. You will also find there are homes of every size, age, and style on the lake. That is one thing you can say about Livingston County lake homes they are not cookie cutter homes. Here are the basic characteristics of Gallagher Lake homes. The home styles are ranches, colonials, cape cods, contempories, bungalows, and raised ranches. They mainly have three and four bedrooms, but they range from two to five bedrooms. The waterfront homes have one to five and a half bathrooms.
There are some homes with no garages up to 6 car garages - mainly 2 or 3 car garages. The lake houses range in size from 672 square feet to 4300 square feet. The homes were built between the years between 1935 - 2015. Some homes have basements but there are quite a few on slabs and crawl spaces. There are about 100 lakefront homes on the lake. You are not going to find huge luxury lakefront estates on Gallagher Lake. The biggest home I know of is about 4300 square feet. There are even more lake homes on the river connecting Gallagher Lake to the other lakes.
There are no condominiums on the lake only single family residences. Some homes are on sewers and some are still on septic systems. It is the same with wells. Some lake homes have wells and some are on municipal water. The homes on the lake are mainly closer together though there are homes that sit on lots over an acres. There is at least one that is over 2 acres.
The size of Gallagher Lake is 76 acres. It is a public all sports lake that has a hole that is 30 feet deep. There is no Public access on the lake but you can get on the chain at Portage Lake. There are no wake restrictions on the lake that I know of. The lakes water source is the Huron River and spring fed. Depending on where you live on the lake will determine whether your childred go to Dexter or Pinckney schools. There is no public beach, no marina, and no water ski course on the lake. The streets around the lake are gravel. There are no canals on the lake.
Gallagher Lake is the fourth lake in the Huron Chain of lakes from the north end. Being on the chain of lakes is a great place to be. You have the ability when you buy a home on Gallagher Lake to go to and use all the lakes. I guarantee you will not ever be bored. Even on Gallagher Lake the shoreline contour is very curvy. There are so many lakes, bays, sand bars, and natural areas that you can explore. If you really drove all the shoreline it is going to take you hours to see it all. I do not even know it you drove the shorelines whether you could do it in 8 hours.
Gallagher Lake is big enough for any water sports you want to do. Whether you want to jet ski or tube you can do it on the lake. There are no wake restrictions or wake hours that I know of. Most people that want to do a lot of water sports drive over to one of the bigger lakes on the chain. They either go to Strawberry Lake, or Base Line Lake, or Portage Lake. They are bigger but sometimes crowded. If you are a fisherman they say the fishing is very good on the chain of lakes. Currently they have a warning about eating the fish you catch, but the fun is in the catching. When you live on the chain it is a great way of life.
Another nice feature of living on the lakes is you can go and get a pizza at Riverside Pizza or you can sit on the deck and have a cold drink and a meal at Zukey Lake Tavern while enjoying the lake views.
Gallagher Lake lies in Hamburg Township in Livingston County in Michigan. The lake is about 4 1/2 miles from Pinckney. The lake is between Strawberry Lake and the Whitewood Lakes basins.
Purchasing a home on Gallagher Lake in Hamburg or on any lake on the chain of lakes is a smart move. You have so much water to boat on. Whether you are a kayaker or paddle boarder there are plenty of calm water spots to go to. Or you just go out earlier before the lakes get busy. The chain of lakes does get busy and the big lakes do get choppy with the boating traffic. You will want to get up early to slalom ski.
You can spend hours boating on the chain and never see it all. The chain of lakes they say stretches about 8 miles. You cannot get your boat onto Ore Lake, but Strawberry Lake, Zukey Lake, Whitewood Lake, Tamarack Lake, Big Portage Lake and Little Portage Lake are all ready for your enjoyment.
