Zukey Lakefront homes are a mix of young and old.  The lakefront homes range from the 1900's to the 2000's.  I think the majority of the homes were built between 1940s and 1970's.  There are some little 800 square foot ranches, but there is also a 3900 square foot cape cod with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and a 3 car garage.   There is also a large 5600 contemporary estate sized home that has 5 bedrooms, 5 baths, and a 3 car garage.  You have a wide variety of homes on the lake. 

 The biggest piece of land under a Zukey Lake home is on 4.5 acres.  Though most lots have between 40 and 200 foot on the lake. Some are close together and some have a little space between them.  The lakefront homes have wells and are on sewers. There are no condominiums on the lake.

Zukey Lake is a public all sports lake that is about 155 acres in size.  The deepest part of the lake is 35 feet deep.  Most of the lake is very shallow.  You will see some very long docks because the shoreline is shallow.  There is no water ski course on the lake. The lakes water source is the Huron River that flows from Ore Lake to the north.  The children on the lake go to Pinckney Schools.

The streets around the lake are paved. All the waterfront homes are on sewers which helps the water quality of the lake.  You do not have sewage leaking into the lake from old or faulty septic systems.  There are canals off the lake.  There is no public beach on the lake though there are a few neighborhood association out lots on the lake.

There is no public access on the lake but you can get on the Huron River Chain of Lakes at the opposite end of the Chain.  There is a DNR boat launch off McGregor Road on Big Portage Lake.   There are no wake restrictions on the lake.  Because the lake is shallow and has sandbars it is a hang out area for boaters.

How important is the school system to you when buying a lakefront home in Oakland County or Livingston County?  Or is the drive time more important to you when looking at waterfront properties?  I always urge lake home buyers to write up a list of priorities before they start their home search.  Knowing what you want and having it on paper will keep you focused and most likely will help you find the home that really fits your criteria.  It is hard enough to find the “right” or “perfect” home in a subdivision.  Now you are looking for that “right” home and adding in all these other criteria such as size of lake, all sports or not, public or private, or type of water bottom.  Search Livingston County Lake homes

More factors to think about and prioritize when buying a lakefront home in Southeastern Michigan.  It doesn’t matter whether it is a West Bloomfield lake home or a Novi waterfront home.  These factors make it harder.  My goal with these lake pages is to help make your decision easier because you are more informed.

 If you have ever been to Zukey Lake, Zukey Lake Tavern, or the Portage chain of lakes you will understand why so many people love the area and the lake.  It is one of the best lake chains in Livingston County!

Zukey Lake is part of the Portage/Pinckney chain of lakes.  Zukey Lake Tavern is on the north side of the lake.  The lake is very shallow in some areas. Zukey Lake is one of the gathering places for shallow swimming with the grandkids.  Or just parking the boat and talking with other friends.

To ski or wakeboard you would go down to Strawberry Lake or Portage Lake.  I have been told there is a sand bar in the lake that you have to be carefull that you don't tear up your prop.

Some of the docks are very long.  They have to be long so it's deep enough to get the boat motor in.

On the South side of the lake there is a road that you almost feel like you are up north.  It is heavily wooded and it seems like you are miles away from civilization.

The kids on the lake would go to Pinckney School System.

Zukey Lake has a marina and docks for rent. It is a very shallow lake, any skiing or wakeboarding would have to be done on one of the other chain lakes.

Like most Livingston County MI Lakes there are not a lot of wide open spaces or privacy.  The homes are not widely spaced apart.  

There is at least one neighborhood association that has a lake lot and lake access to Zukey Lake.  I know that for sure because I was kicked out of it when I was taking a few pictures of the lake.  It was fall and nobody was in the lake, but one guy was ornery and didn't want me to stand on the association property to take a picture.  (Oh well)  But that ornery old guy was the exception.  I have met and talked to so many good residents of the lake that have helped with with all this information about Zukey Lake.

Zukey Lake is located in Hamburg Township Oakland County MI.  It is South of 36, East of Kress Rd, and West of Merrill Rd.
