The size of Wild Goose Lake is 40 acres though one site say 20 acres. I myself think it is the bigger size. It is not an all sports lake as it just is not big enough to put a speed boat on. If it is a non all sports lake then most likely there is no wake restrictions on the lake. The deepest spot on Wild Goose Lake in Lyndon is about 14 feet deep.
There is no public DNR launch, no public beach. The lake is limited to residents only use. There is no marina on the lake, no islands, no canals on the lake, and no water ski course on the lake. Wild Goose Lake is spring fed. The school district for the lake is Stockbridge Schools. The streets around the lake are a mixture of gravel & paved.Wild Goose Lake is just a smaller lake not suitable lake for speedboats or jet skiis. It is just too small of a lake. It's a good swimming, fishing, and kayaking type of lake. A quiet lake.
Back in the 1920's Wild Goose Lake and the surrounding area was bought by three black families to build a resort for black clientele. In the beginning the local white residents fought to keep the resort from being built. They even boycotted a local store because the owner supported the new black resort called Wild Goose Country Club. People who came to the resort swimming, dancing in the dance hall, fishing, and golf. They built a fishing dock for the visitors. Back then Blacks could not play golf on most courses. There were 93 lots on the lake at that time. The owners rented cottages to people coming from Detroit. Wild Goose Resort attached blacks from all over SE Michigan. Because of the depression the resort slowly fell into disuse. The dance hall was destroyed in a storm in the 1930's. The golf course too feel into disuse because black could play on municipal golf courses in the 1950's.
What was one the Wild Goose Lake resort is now a lake community where people live all year round. The original cottage are basically gone in their old form. They have been torn down or rebuilt for newer homes. The old club house is now a home. The biggest change is that the lake is racially diverse. A good sign of the times. It is about 50% white and 50% black.
