Silver Lake Homes Dexter MI
There are many different styles of lake homes on Silver Lake in Dexter MI. Some of the home styles are ranches, colonials, contemporary homes, and bungalows. There are a couple of homes on the lake that were built in the 1800's, but like many lakes in Washtenaw County and Livingston County there is a wide range of when the houses were built. The majority of the homes were built from the early 1900's to late 1990's. There are still some small lake cottages on Silver Lake. Silver Lake homes range from 800 square feet to over 3600 square feet. Most of the Silver Lake Waterfront homes in Washtenaw County are on the smaller size between 1000 square feet to 2400 square feet.
I did some research on the lake homes that sold in the last ten years and this is what I found out. The homes usually have 2-3 bedrooms, 1-2 bathrooms, no garages to 3 car garages. Some homes have basements, so do not. Some have walkout basements. Like so many of lake homes in Washtenaw County and Livingston County Silver Lake homes are all ages, styles, and sizes. The homes on the lake are on well and sewers.
Silver Lake Washtenaw County information
Silver Lake is a public all sports lake in Dexter Township. Silver Lake is about 152 acres in size. The roads around the lake are mostly paved but there is a gravel road too. Depending on where you live on the lake determines whethere your children go to the Pinckney or Dexter school district.
The Pinckney State recreation area abuts Silver Lake in several areas. About 1/3 of the lake is part of the Pinckney State Recreation area. There are no canals on the lake, no public beach, no water ski course, and no condos on the lake. The lake is spring fed. There are no boating restrictions or lake restrictions that I know of.

The homes on Silver Lake in Dexter MI were built from the 1920's to the 2000's. There are still some of the small 900 square foot ranches, but there are some that have been added on to, remodeled, and made like new. In fact one 1920's home is now a 2900 square foot colonial.
Silver Lake properties range from 50' to 100' of lake frontage. There is even one home that sits on 11 acres!
Silver Lake Location
Silver Lake is located in Dexter Township Washtenaw County MI. It is north of N Territorial, south of Patterson Lake Rd and west of Dexter-Pinckney Rd .
Here is a page on the State of Michigan website that has all the laws pertaining to in lnland Lakes. I have tried to put and add lake rules whenever I find out about them. Most southeastern Michigan lakes are governed by the normal lake rules and regulations. So lakes are non-motorized or electric motor only. But you will know that before buying on the lake.
Here are some of the normal rules and regulations of our local lakes. Boat traffic goes counter clockwise on the lake. You should stay 100 feet from the shore especially if you are making a wake. (Remember you are rocking everybody's boats. You can't tow somebody behind a boat before dawn or after dusk. Basically not in the dark. If you are at least 16 years of age and born after December 31, 1978, may operate a Personal water craft legally only if they have obtained a boating safety certificate.
Most boats have a sticker of how much weight and how many people can be on the boat at one time. You must have life preservers for each person on the boat too. Most lakes have no speed limits on them. There are only a few that do in our local area.
Most private lakes in Southeastern Michigan do not have a sheriff on the lake unless they are called. Many of the bigger public all sports lakes will have a sheriff on the lake on the weekends. It depends on the county and the county's budget as how often they are out there.

How important is the school system to you when buying a lakefront home in Oakland County or Livingston County? When Michigan relocation buyers come to me a school system is usually one of their top priorities. Or is the drive time more important to you when looking at waterfront properties? I always urge lake home buyers to write up a list of priorities before they start their home search. Knowing what you want and having it on paper will keep you focused and most likely will help you find the home that really fits your criteria. It is hard enough to find the “right” or “perfect” home in a subdivision. Now you are looking for that “right” home and adding in all these other criteria such as size of lake, all sports or not, public or private, or type of water bottom. More factors to think about and prioritize when buying a waterfront home in Southeastern Michigan. It doesn’t matter whether it is a West Bloomfield lake home or a Novi waterfront home. These factors make it harder. I usually hear “If I could put that house on that lake I would be thrilled.” Unfortunately, sometimes you have to decide what are the most important criteria to you, and try to get as many of them as you can in your choice of homes.
