Cranberry Lake Independence Township MI

Cranberry Lake in Independence Twp is a private all sports lake that is just a short distance from downtown Clarkston and I-75.  So you can live on the lake and go to downtown Clarkston and enjoy all the restaurants.

Cranberry Lake is not a huge lake.  There is no true information on the size of the lake as there are many Cranberry Lakes in Michigan.  There are at least 3 lakes with the same name in Oakland County alone.  There is one in White Lake Township and one in Oakland Township.  The state websites do not list it either so I am guessing it is about an 85 acre private all sports lake.  There is no DNR launch site on the lake. 

You are not going to find big mega mansions or luxury lakefront estates on the lake.  Most of the homes range from 1100 square foot to about 3000 square feet though there are a few in the 3400 square foot range.  The lakefront homes were built from the lake 1950's to the late 1950's.  They mostly have 3-4 bedrooms, and 2-3+ bathrooms.  The roads around the lake are paved and the children on the lake go to Clarkston schools.

Most of the homes on the lake are on well though there are a few that are on municipal water.  It is the same with septics on Cranberry Lake homes.  Most of them are on septic systems though there are some on sewer.  It just depends on where you live on the lake whether city water and sewer is available.

The lots that the lake homes sit on are decent sized.  There are several lake homes that sit on lots that are over an acre.  One is over 2.36 acres.

The lake lies entirely in Independence Township, but everybody says Clarkston.  The children that live on the lake go to Clarkston schools which is a good school system.  Or if you decide you can send your children to private schools.

The lake is spring fed.  As you can see I took these pictures in October (2021). 

There are about 55 homes on the lake.  Though on the north side of the lake the homes sit across the road.  I do not know if they have actual lake frontage or if they just use it because nobody else does.  On the Northeast side of the lake it does appear they have legal lake frontage.  If you do not know when a waterfront house sits on a hillside the views are usually amazing.  It's something about being up high that gives a better lake view.  My living room sits about 15 feet above the lake and I love the views. 

It's a small lake so there is not going to be a lot of boat traffic.  There is one short canal that leads to a small bay with a few waterfront homes on the bay.  So that little bay does not add much traffic on the lake.  The roads around the lake are paved.

There are no condominiums on the lake.  There is no water ski course nor DNR launch.  I would assume there is a lot or a home owner that allows boats to be launched by lake residents.      

This would not be a lake for active water sports enthusiast because the lake just isn't big enough.  You would want to buy on a lake that is bigger.  Whereever you would like buy, Clarkston is a great place to live near.   Two nearby Clarkston area lakes ar.

Cranberry Lake is about 1.5 miles from Downtown Clarkston.  It is just a small lake to the East of M-15 north of I-75.  So you have easy access to jump on the freeway and get to downtown Detroit, Troy, or Auburn Hills.

Lake living is an amazing way of life.   It's like you are on vacation everyday of the week.  Whether you go out on the lake or not water is relaxing.  It is great to just come home sit on the deck and relax watching the water and the wildlife.
